Kia ūkaipō anō te reo Māori: “Te reo Māori is restored as a nurturing first language”

This is the vision of the Māori language strategy called the Maihi Māori that was developed by Māori for kāinga, hapori and iwi.
In 2017, Te Mātāwai met with stakeholders nationwide to gather feedback on Māori language initiatives in homes and communities, their aspirations for te reo Māori and the role of Te Mātāwai in realising these aspirations.  This feedback informed the development of the Maihi Māori 2017-2040 Strategy.

The role
In this exciting role, as a member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the investment strategy and procurement processes as well as the creation of innovative frameworks to cluster-based decision making and language planning.  More operationally you will manage the team to provide advice and guidance to key stakeholders and leaders. You will set and manage the work programme including contract management, reporting and investment strategy evaluation. 

About you
To succeed in this role as a member of the leadership team you will bring:

  • Excellent communication skills with conversational level of Te Reo Māori combined with a sound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
  • Experience dealing with the management of investment funding and procurement of kāinga, hapori and iwi-based programmes.
  • A collaborative working style and ability to advise, guide and influence key stakeholders in their decision making processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgement and risk management with the ability to use these skills confidently to make decisions in pressured settings.
  • A commitment to the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori and experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation’s and Māori communities.
