Kia ūkaipō anō te reo Māori: “Te reo Māori is restored as a nurturing first language”

This is the vision of a Māori language strategy called the Maihi Māori. It was developed as a result of a nationwide consultation with stakeholders to understand their aspirations for te reo Māori and the role of Te Mātāwai in realising these aspirations.

Te Mātāwai enables kāinga, hapori and iwi to identify, pursue and fulfil their own Māori language aspirations through:

  • our investment programme
  • seeking information to build a strong knowledge base that informs best practice Māori language revitalisation
  • advocating and providing advice to ensure policy, systems and Māori-language-related settings best support the revitalisation of the Māori language in collaboration with our Maihi Karauna partners.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications Advisor in our Corporate Services team based in Wellington.
Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Senior Communications Advisor will provide a high level of strategic enablement, advice, and guidance to support Te Mātāwai in all aspects of communications including:

  • Media and PR management
  • Reputation development
  • Newsletter and written content development
  • Strategic communication planning

The role has a broad scope and touches on all aspects of Communications.

About you

To succeed in this role you will bring:

  • proficiency in Te Reo Māori and English
  • a relevant tertiary qualification and at least five years’ work experience in a related role
  • demonstrated ability to understand and use a variety of channels for effective communication to a range of audiences
  • strong presentation, communications skills (written and oral) and relationship management skills.
  • a commitment to the revitalisation of the Māori language.
  • a sound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
