Senior Emergency Management Advisor, National Operations (Auckland)

The NEMA National Operations team leads the operational systems, facilities and infrastructure required to respond effectively to emergencies within New Zealand. A Senior Advisor National Operations’ primary responsibility is to be accountable for building and maintaining operational capability for NEMA and support the development of operational capability with the range of CDEM stakeholders within the context of the National CDEM Plan.

Based in Auckland, the Senior Emergency Management Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining operational infrastructure of the National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC), in particular, the Alternative NCMC in Auckland
  • Managing effective relationships with key stakeholders to strengthen NCMC resilience (including people resources) in Auckland
  • Leading and contributing to the strategy, policy and management of processes of NEMA as they specifically relate to the NEMA National Operations Group
  • Leading and contributing to the development and delivery of operational training for supplementary staff in Auckland and Wellington

In the event of an emergency when the Alternative NCMC is activated, this role will be required to lead the activation of the facility and will have a key role in the response structure.  As a Senior Emergency Management Advisor, you will bring the following attributes:

· Strong presentation skills; providing clear and concise information
· Capability to train others, individually or in a group
· Project management skills; within an environment with myriad priorities
· Staying calm under pressure; able to read the situation and offer pro-active and appropriate advice while maintaining personal resilience

A relevant tertiary qualification in emergency management (or equivalent experience) will ensure a solid understanding of the environments within which this role will work. Having developed functional and operational plans previously, and with sound technical acumen (particularly with regards to IT and communications systems) will also be required.

Due to the security requirements of this role, applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident.
