Mō te tūnga | About the Role

As a Data Platform Engineer, you will sit within a tight-knit, collaborative project team consisting of a Delivery Manager, an Architect, and two expert Vendor resources.
Your role is unique: you will act as the vital technical link between the agency and the vendor, ensuring platform stability while driving continuous improvements. This position offers an excellent balance across the board:

  • 75% Project Delivery: Delivering platform enhancements, onboarding new data sources, automating CI/CD pipelines, and supporting forward-looking AI/ML initiatives.
  • 25% Operational Support: Keeping the lights on, triaging ServiceNow requests, and maintaining the core Azure environment.

The Upskilling Opportunity:
Have a strong DevOps or Platform background but want to dive deeper into Data? Or a Data Engineer looking to master Cloud Infrastructure? The agency is completely open to varying backgrounds and is ready to invest in training you. If you want to rapidly uplift your expertise in Azure, Databricks, and Modern Data Engineering, this is the perfect career launchpad.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a key technical contributor, bridging the gap between platform engineering, data pipelines, and operational support.
  • Enhance and optimize enterprise ETL/ELT pipelines using CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Consume, transform, and store data originating from a legacy CRM system, making it seamlessly available for advanced Power BI insights.
  • Collaborate closely with external vendor partners to co-deliver platform services.
  • Support the adoption of emerging advanced analytics and AI/ML workloads within Databricks.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What You Bring
While they are happy to train you on specific tools, a solid foundational tech baseline is required. We are keen to speak with Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, DevOps Engineers, or Site Reliability Engineers who bring:

  • 4+ years of experience across data platform, software, or cloud infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience with cloud environments (Azure preferred, but AWS/GCP backgrounds with a desire to learn Azure are welcome).
  • Familiarity with data platforms/warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake, SQL Server, etc.).
  • Confident with SQL & Python.
  • Experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills—you can easily act as the bridge between internal teams and external vendor resources.

What’s on Offer?

  • Financial Reward: A highly competitive salary
  • Flexibility: Genuine hybrid working model (balance of work-from-home and a central Wellington office).
  • Career Growth: Fully supported training and upskilling in Databricks, Azure, and modern cloud architecture.
  • Longevity: A 12-month initial term, permanent or extended opportunities are highly likely.
