We have a unique opportunity for someone to join a growing HR consultancy at a genuinely exciting point in its journey. The business was set up to give small and medium-sized business owners a safe, practical place to turn for HR support – the kind that is clear, commercially sensible, and grounded in the realities of running a business.

Today, they support a growing group of clients and are moving into their next phase. They now need a capable Senior HR Lead who can step in, take ownership, bring some momentum, and help shape what comes next.

The opportunity
This role would suit someone who is technically strong, commercially minded, and confident working with a good level of autonomy. You will work closely with the founder and play an important part in delivering practical HR support across a varied client base. There is plenty to get stuck into: shaping systems, building simple and useful frameworks, improving processes, and giving advice that clients can actually use.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working directly with business owners, directors, and senior leaders to understand what is going on in their business and talk through practical HR options.
  • Providing sound HR advice across employee relations, documentation, systems, processes, onboarding, and general people practices.
  • Keeping in touch with clients regularly and making sure they feel supported, not just when something goes wrong.
  • Helping design and embed practical HR systems and processes that suit each client’s size, stage, and way of working.
  • Meeting clients face to face during onboarding and at key points in the relationship, while keeping day-to-day support efficient and responsive.
  • Helping shape the service model as the business moves into its next phase.
  • Bringing calm, considered thinking to situations that are rarely completely straightforward.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong technical HR capability and the confidence to advise across a broad range of people matters.
  • Proven consultancy experience
  • A practical, pragmatic style, with the ability to help clients make good decisions without overcomplicating things.
  • The confidence to create, improve, and build — not just follow existing templates or processes.
  • Commercial nous and a genuine understanding of what it is like to support small and medium-sized businesses.
  • A steady, responsible, high-trust approach, with the maturity to work autonomously.
  • A collaborative style and the confidence to sit with clients, listen properly, and understand what is really going on.
  • A creative mindset, balanced with enough structure to get things done well.
  • A genuine interest in being part of a business and helping it grow.
