Are you a highly capable Business Intelligence professional who wants more than just dashboard development?

We are seeking an experienced Lead Business Intelligence Analyst based in Wellington to take ownership of data, reporting, analytics, and insight delivery within a respected New Zealand public sector organisation. This is a rare opportunity to join a small, collaborative organisation where you will play a pivotal role in building data capability, influencing decision-making, and driving meaningful organisational outcomes.

This is a sole-charge position, giving you end-to-end ownership across the entire data and analytics lifecycle. You’ll partner with senior leaders, translate business challenges into data solutions, and help non-technical stakeholders understand and act on insights that improve services and performance.

About the Opportunity, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the organisation’s business intelligence and reporting function
  • Developing insightful dashboards, reports, and performance metrics
  • Managing and enhancing data infrastructure, integrity, and governance
  • Partnering with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable insights
  • Analysing complex datasets to support strategic and operational decision-making
  • Building a data-driven culture by taking stakeholders on the journey and increasing data literacy across the organisation
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes through technology and automation
  • Working closely with IT and business teams to strengthen data management practices

This role offers significant scope to influence the organisation’s future data architecture. Depending on organisational priorities and your expertise, there may be opportunities to help design and implement a new data warehouse, data lake, database environment, or broader modern data platform.

What We’re Looking For: You will be both technically strong and commercially minded, able to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and communicate complex concepts in a simple, meaningful way.
Ideally, you will bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Data Intelligence roles
  • Strong experience working across the full BI lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to reporting and insights delivery
  • Advanced skills in Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake, or similar BI and analytics platforms
  • Strong SQL and ETL development experience
  • Experience working with complex datasets and multiple source systems
  • Advanced Excel, Power Query, and data modelling capability
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and consulting skills
  • The ability to influence, educate, and bring non-technical audiences on the data journey
  • A proactive, self-directed approach and the confidence to operate independently

Experience in a Salesforce environment and public sector experience will be valued but is not essential.

Why Apply?

  • Sole-charge leadership role with broad ownership and visibility
  • Opportunity to lead a genuine data capability uplift
  • Influence strategic decisions through meaningful insight
  • Potential pathway into data architecture, platform design, and data strategy
  • Flexible hybrid working environment
  • Supportive and values-driven culture
  • Work directly with executive leaders and key decision-makers
