H2R Technology is partnering with Cancer Society Wellington to appoint its first dedicated Head of Technology and Projects.

This is an opportunity to shape how technology supports an organisation with a clear purpose. From helping people access cancer support to improving fundraising systems and giving staff better information, your work will have a direct connection to the services the Cancer Society delivers.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you’ll bring together technology leadership, business systems ownership and project delivery. You’ll have the opportunity to establish a clear direction and personally lead the improvements that turn it into reality.

The opportunity

As a member of the Wellington Leadership Team, you’ll work closely with colleagues across cancer services, fundraising and corporate functions to understand their needs and prioritise investment.

With one direct report focused on data administration and reporting, alongside external technology partners, this is a broad role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with people and getting things done.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing a practical technology roadmap that connects organisational priorities with achievable improvements.
• Leading technology and business improvement projects from planning and business cases through to implementation and staff adoption.
• Improving fundraising and client management systems, data quality and reporting capability.
• Guiding responsible AI adoption and strengthening information management practices.
• Managing technology suppliers, budgets and service performance, with oversight of cybersecurity, resilience and technology risk.
• Working with other Cancer Society divisions and National Office on shared systems and initiatives.

Early priorities include further development of the Connect with Ease programme, which aims to improve access to support through 0800 CANCER, alongside improvements to donor information, SharePoint and the organisation’s approach to AI.

About you

You’re a pragmatic technology leader who can set direction, explain decisions clearly and take ownership of delivery. You’re comfortable working in a small organisation where leadership involves both influencing others and personally moving projects forward.

Your experience will include:

• Leading technology, information systems or technology-enabled business change.
• Personally delivering projects through implementation and adoption.
• Developing technology roadmaps and making sound investment decisions.
• Managing outsourced technology services and supplier relationships.
• Overseeing business applications, data and reporting, with a sound understanding of cybersecurity, privacy and information management.

You’ll build trust with colleagues who have different levels of technical confidence and collaborate effectively across a federated organisation. You’ll also bring a commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and inclusive leadership.

A tertiary qualification in Information Systems or a related discipline is required. Experience in the health or not-for-profit sector would be helpful.
