Our client is a purpose-led organisation whose work makes a meaningful contribution to communities across New Zealand. Working in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders, it brings people, perspectives and knowledge together to support positive outcomes. Its values centre on integrity, inclusion and care for others.

Combine strategic influence with hands-on delivery in a senior communications role with breadth and purpose. You’ll shape the communications strategy and work programme, provide trusted advice to senior leaders and turn organisational priorities into clear, compelling communications. This is a professional leadership role with no direct reports, offering scope to guide others through your expertise, coaching and judgement.
  • Lead communications planning and delivery, aligning priorities, resources and messaging.
  • Provide strategic advice on media engagement, reputation and emerging issues.
  • Oversee engaging internal and external content across digital and other channels.
  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and deliver accessible, audience-focused communications.
  • Coach communications colleagues and provide quality assurance across key outputs.

About You

You’re an experienced communications professional who can see the bigger picture and deliver the detail. You build credibility quickly, exercise sound judgement when issues are sensitive and influence outcomes through strong relationships.
  • 10+ years’ communications experience, ideally within the public sector, including leading complex communications programmes.
  • Proven experience advising senior leaders, managing media relationships and navigating politically sensitive environments.
  • Excellent writing, planning and prioritisation skills, with a strong understanding of strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • The ability to lead through influence, coach others and champion plain language, accessibility and culturally responsive communication.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience, understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori, and knowledge of inclusion and community engagement.
Make your next move about both influence and impact. This opportunity brings together meaningful work, direct engagement with senior leaders and a varied remit spanning strategy, media, content and stakeholder engagement. You’ll help shape the communications approach while strengthening capability around you—without formal people-management responsibilities.
