Chief Operating Officer

  • Lead operations for a values-led health and social services organisation
  • Partner closely with the Chief Executive and senior leaders
  • Make a meaningful impact while living in the beautiful Far North

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to bring your executive leadership experience to a purpose-driven organisation delivering essential health, housing and social services across the Far North. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will lead the organisation’s internal operations and help translate strategy into clear priorities, accountable delivery and measurable outcomes.

Leading four senior direct reports across Service Operations, People and Capability, Quality and Health and Safety, and Finance, your portfolio will include:

  • Organisational and service performance
  • Financial management, funded contracts and reporting
  • Workforce planning, leadership capability and culture
  • Quality, risk, compliance, and health and safety
  • Technology, systems and continuous improvement
  • Operational planning and organisational change

About you
You will be a highly capable senior leader ready to take the next step in your career. You will have experience working with Chief Executives and senior leadership teams, and the ability to turn strategy into practical action. Commercially and operationally astute, you will bring sound judgement and disciplined delivery while keeping people, whānau and community outcomes at the heart of your decisions.

You will bring:

  • Senior leadership or executive experience within complex, multi-service organisations
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business, management, finance, health, social services or a related discipline
  • Strong operational and financial management capability
  • Experience overseeing service performance, funded contracts, compliance and risk
  • A track record of strengthening systems and leading organisational change
  • The ability to mentor and develop senior leaders and managers
  • Sound judgement, resilience and emotional intelligence
  • A practical, collaborative and visible leadership style
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for whānau and communities

Experience within health, housing, social or community services, or a kaupapa Māori organisation, would be valuable but is not essential. More important is your respect for Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, willingness to learn, and desire to use your leadership experience for meaningful impact.

What’s on offer

  • A senior leadership role with genuine community impact
  • The opportunity to shape and embed a new operating model
  • A supportive Chief Executive and community-focused team
  • A vehicle as part of the overall remuneration package
  • A Kaikohe-based role with a strong on-site leadership presence

Whether you are already based in the region, looking to return home or ready for a lifestyle change, this is an opportunity to build a rewarding executive career while contributing to better outcomes across the Far North!
