Due to increased business growth, our client is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join their Data Analytics Team. You’ll architect, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that underpins investment research and decision‑making partnering with dedicated financial services customers.
  
Your day to day responsibilities will include:

• Advanced Data Pipeline Engineering — Design, build, and optimise scalable pipelines ingesting structured and unstructured data from vendors, sell‑side partners, APIs, cloud sources, and internal systems. Implement robust ETL/ELT workflows with strong validation, schema management, and monitoring.
• Platform Development & Testing — Enhance the central data platform to support evolving analytical and quantitative needs. Develop modular, testable components; implement automated testing frameworks; and ensure high‑availability architecture.
• Data Quality, Reliability & Governance — Establish and maintain data quality checks, lineage tracking, and reconciliation processes. Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of datasets critical to the investment process.
• Performance Optimisation — Tune SQL queries, optimise storage formats (Parquet, ORC), and improve compute efficiency across AWS services.
• Cross‑Team Collaboration — Partner with investment teams, quants, and analysts to improve data accessibility, build reusable data models, and introduce new datasets.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement — Evaluate and adopt modern data engineering tools, orchestration frameworks, and cloud‑native technologies to enhance platform capability.

  
The preferred candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• 3–6 years’ experience as a dedicated data engineer role 
• Strong academic background — 2.1 degree or equivalent from a top university – A‑Levels or international equivalents is expected.
• Hedge fund experience is essential with a dedicated financial services industry background.
• Deep expertise in SQL — complex joins, window functions, performance tuning and query optimisation.
• Strong Python engineering — data processing libraries, modular code design, testing frameworks
• AWS proficiency — S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR, Redshift, IAM, Step Functions
• Experience with orchestration & version control — Airflow, Git, CI/CD pipelines
• Proven troubleshooting ability — diagnosing pipeline failures, resolving data inconsistencies, improving reliability
• Strong communication & teamwork is essential with the ability to work effectively with teams across different regions and time zones.
• Self‑starter mindset with attention to detail and a drive to learn new technologies
