The Cancer Society Wellington Division is seeking an energetic and people-focused Events and Community Fundraising Team Leader to lead their events fundraising programme and help shape the future of community fundraising across the region.

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships, you will lead a team of two and play a pivotal role in developing and delivering fundraising events and community engagement initiatives. You’ll oversee some of New Zealand’s most recognised fundraising campaigns, including Relay for Life and Daffodil Day, while helping shape the future of community fundraising across the region.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading and developing a high-performing Events & Community Fundraising team.
  • Developing and implementing fundraising strategies to achieve revenue targets.
  • Project managing large-scale fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Building strong relationships with donors, volunteers, sponsors, schools, businesses, and community groups.
  • Identifying and developing new fundraising opportunities.
  • Managing sponsorship partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborating with fundraising teams across New Zealand.
  • Championing excellent supporter and volunteer experiences.

To be successful in this role, you’ll be an engaging and authentic leader with a genuine passion for building relationships and bringing people together. You’ll be a strong communicator with the empathy and emotional intelligence to connect with people from all walks of life.

You will bring:

  • Previous experience leading and developing a team.
  • Experience in fundraising, events and community engagement.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering successful events and revenue growth.
  • Excellent stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Energy, initiative, and a genuine can-do attitude.
  • Creativity and a willingness to bring fresh ideas.
  • A passion for making a positive impact in the community.

Ideally, you’ll bring experience from the not-for-profit, charity, events, or community engagement sectors, along with strong project management and relationship-building skills.

If you’re an engaging leader who thrives on bringing people together, creating memorable events, and driving fundraising success, we’d love to hear from you.
