About us
Te Mātāwai supports and champions the use of te reo Maori in homes, across communities and among iwi so it is heard, felt and seen on a daily basis!
We are an independent statutory entity legislated to:

  • provide leadership in promoting the health and well-being of Te Reo Māori for iwi and Māori, and at the community level
  • support, inform and influence the Crown’s initiatives in protecting, promoting and revitalising Te Reo Māori
  • give effect, through its association with Ministers of the Crown, to the relationship of the Crown with iwi and Māori in relation to Te Reo Māori; amongst other things.

We are searching for a Finance Business Partner to be an integral part of our Corporate Services team, delivering finance operations and reporting and leading our Accountant.

The role:
In this exciting role, you will build and maintain a variety of relationships, both internal and external, therefore, visibility across the motu is essential to the success of this role. Duties include:

  • Lead our Accountant, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Lead all activities in the accounting and finance function in conjunction with the Corporate Services Manager
  • Support the Corporate Services Manager to establish and maintain appropriate internal controls, prepare and complete the annual budget process, complete the annual audit, and prepare financial statements and papers for the Audit and Risk Committee and Board
  • Partner with managers to support them with their financial responsibilities.

  
About you
To succeed in this role you will have:

  • A degree in accounting or other business-related subject.
  • A CA qualification (or its equivalent).
  • Experience in an accounting, audit or consulting role.
  • Proven experience leading a team.
  • Experience in reviewing and improving financial policies and processes.
  • A sound understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, risk, governance, business administration, team management and HR/payroll.
  • Be proficient in using Xero.
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines.  
  • Strong presentation, communications skills and relationship management skills.
  • Sound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
  • A basic level of te reo Māori with a willingness to develop further.
  • Be a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of the Māori language.
