Governance & People Coordinator

Location:
Wellington
Type:
Permanent / Full Time

A varied role where great coordination really matters. Some roles are neatly contained within one area. This isn’t one of them.

This is an opportunity to work across governance, assurance, risk and HR, providing the coordination and practical support that helps an organisation stay organised, accountable and on track.

Our client is a small, purpose-driven public sector organisation of around 60 people, doing meaningful work for communities across Aotearoa. We’re told it’s a genuinely lovely place to work, with a diverse workforce, great people and a strong sense of purpose.

They’re looking for a capable Governance & People Coordinator to join the team. You’ll work closely with leaders and colleagues across the organisation, supporting everything from governance meetings and action tracking through to risk, assurance and day-to-day HR processes.

If you enjoy variety, are naturally organised and like being the person who quietly makes sure things get done properly, there’s plenty to like about this role.

What you’ll be doing

Your days will be varied with responsibilities including:

  • Coordinating governance meetings, agendas, papers and minutes
  • Keeping decisions, actions and organisational commitments on track
  • Maintaining governance schedules, records and reporting
  • Supporting risk, assurance and compliance activities
  • Maintaining risk and issue registers and following up mitigation actions
  • Assisting with audit coordination and assurance documentation
  • Preparing high-quality reports, correspondence and documentation
  • Supporting employment correspondence, position description updates and people records
  • Helping coordinate onboarding, induction and workforce reporting
  • Working with leaders and stakeholders to gather information and meet deadlines
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and make ways of working more efficient

What we’re looking for

There’s flexibility around where you’ve gained your experience. You could currently be working in governance, HR, programme or project coordination, assurance, executive coordination or senior business support.

More important than your job title is your ability to bring:

  • Strong organisation, planning and coordination skills
  • Experience supporting governance meetings, committees or leadership teams
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confidence preparing papers, minutes, reports and other documentation
  • An understanding of governance, risk, assurance or compliance processes
  • Experience supporting HR or people processes would be highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgement when working with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on deadlines
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and collaboration tools

Previous HR experience isn’t essential, but it would certainly be an advantage.

Exposure to areas such as employment documentation, onboarding, people administration, workforce reporting or broader HR coordination would translate particularly well.

Just as importantly, you could bring strong governance, assurance or coordination experience and be comfortable picking up the HR components of the role.

Why consider this opportunity?

There’s something different about working in a smaller organisation. Your contribution is visible, you get to build relationships across the wider business, and you’re rarely confined to one narrow lane.

You’ll be joining a small and diverse organisation doing meaningful work, with a role that offers broad exposure across governance, assurance, risk and people processes.

It could be a particularly good next move if you’ve built a solid foundation in coordination or administration and are looking for more breadth, responsibility and exposure.

Interested?

If you’re a strong coordinator with an eye for detail, enjoy building good working relationships and like the idea of a role with genuine variety, we’d love to hear from you.
