The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Household Advisor to join TRC’s passionate and collaborative Affordable Housing team. In this role, you’ll support whānau on their Shared Home Ownership (SHO) journey  from preparing for mortgage approval through to settlement and ongoing post-occupancy guidance. This position blends relationship building, financial education, and a proactive engagement approach. The ideal candidate will understand whānau aspirations, keep them motivated throughout the process, and help them confidently navigate the options available on their path to home ownership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support whānau through the home ownership journey: prepare them for ownership, explain programme objectives, and help achieve financial goals like debt reduction, savings, and mortgage readiness.
  • Present creative solutions and keep momentum when challenges arise.
  • Build trust through clear financial education and proactive communication.
  • Collaborate with community services to ensure whānau are fully supported.
  • Monitor and report on targets and KPIs to maintain housing ownership programme pipeline growth.
  • Provide post-occupancy support around changing circumstances, refinancing, and home maintenance.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is collaborative, adaptable, and confident with numbers. They can explain financial concepts clearly and build trust quickly with people from all walks of life. Strong relationship skills and cultural competency particularly with Māori and Pasifika communities are essential. Experience in housing, lending, or advisory roles is preferred, along with the ability to keep whānau motivated and informed throughout the process.
