About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established organisation offering a complex, fast-paced environment where People and Culture plays an important role in supporting leaders and enabling strong business outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established HR Business Partnering team and help shape how the function operates. You will have the scope to improve practices, introduce greater consistency and build the capability of leaders, while continuing to grow your own career within a sizeable organisation that is passionate about developing its people from within.

Reporting to a senior People and Culture leader, you will partner with an allocated business portfolio and provide practical, commercially balanced HR support. This is a broad generalist role with a strong ER and IR focus, offering plenty of variety, complexity and opportunity to make a visible difference.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Building trusted partnerships with leaders across your allocated portfolio
• Managing complex ER matters, including investigations, grievances, medical incapacity, disciplinary processes and disputes
• Interpreting individual and collective employment agreements
• Engaging constructively with unions and employee representatives
• Coaching leaders to manage people matters confidently and address issues earlier
• Improving ER case management, reporting, policies, templates and processes
• Contributing to wider people initiatives and continuous improvement projects

About You
You will be an experienced HR Business Partner, HR Manager or senior HR practitioner who enjoys being visible in the business and working closely with operational leaders. You will bring strong generalist HR experience and sound knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation, along with the confidence and judgement to navigate complex and sensitive people matters. Experience in a unionised, manufacturing, construction, industrial or operational environment would be highly valued.

You will be practical, collaborative and happy to roll up your sleeves, share knowledge and have a laugh. This is a humble, down-to-earth team with no egos, so above all, we’re looking for a genuinely good human!
