About the Role
  
We have an exciting brand-new opportunity for an experienced Human Resources Manager to join a large, purpose-driven organisation where the work you do will have a meaningful impact on communities across New Zealand. With around 1,700 employees across multiple locations, this organisation is investing in strengthening its people capability, leadership, and employee experience. Reporting to the General Manager People & Culture, you’ll lead the HR Advisory function, managing a small team of HR Advisors and an HR Administrator while driving operational excellence and embedding consistent, high-quality people practices. This is a broad leadership role that combines strategic thinking with hands-on HR expertise. You’ll partner closely with leaders to navigate complex people matters, build leadership capability, and continuously improve HR systems, policies, and processes to ensure HR delivers real value to the business, its people, and the communities it serves.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Leading and developing a high-performing HR Advisory team.
• Providing expert advice on complex employment and industrial relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes, restructures, grievances, and performance management.
• Coaching and supporting leaders to confidently manage people matters.
• Reviewing, developing and improving HR policies, frameworks, systems, and documentation.
• Supporting organisational change initiatives and strategic workforce priorities.
• Driving consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across HR operations.

About You
You’re an experienced HR leader who is passionate about creating an HR function that enables the business, supports its people, and contributes to the communities it serves. You lead with empathy, resilience, kindness, and sound judgement, building trusted relationships and confidently partnering with leaders through both strategic initiatives and complex employment and industrial relations matters. With experience leading small HR teams, you bring strong coaching and influencing skills, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a genuine drive to continuously improve people practices. Experience in a unionised, healthcare, public sector, or similarly complex environment will be highly regarded.
