Practice and Compliance Manager

H2R Consulting are currently assisting a Wellington based organisation locate a Practice and Compliance Manager, with a financial accounting background. This person will provide oversight, guidance, and assurance across our Grants Team, Finance Team, and Grants Audit Team.

This permanent role is based in Wellington CBD, close to the Railway Station. It would suit someone who combines solid technical capability with a positive, humble, and collaborative approach.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide structured support to the Grants, Finance, and Grants Audit functions.
  • Monitor and support compliance with financial, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
  • Maintain and support policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks across Finance and Grants.
  • Identify process gaps and compliance risks and escalate opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support internal and external audits, including coordination of information and follow-up actions.
  • Provide clear, practical guidance to teams on compliance requirements and agreed best practice.
  • Prepare concise reports, summaries, and insights for senior leadership review.
  • Assist and provide backup support for accounting, grant and grant audit tasks as required.
  • Provide general support to the Finance and Grants team to ensure continuity of operations.

About you:

  • Accounting background is essential
  • Tertiary qualification required, preferably CPA or similar
  • Experience in compliance, audit, or risk-focused roles
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and processes
  • Positive attitude with a high level of humility and integrity
  • Approachable, collaborative, and able to influence without ego.
  • Strong attention to detail with sound judgement
  • Experience in a not-for-profit, public sector, or regulated environment is advantageous
