We are seeking an experienced Principal BI Advisor to join a large, enterprise-scale organisation on an initial 6-month contract based in Wellington. This role offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor BI professionals, and support a major business intelligence modernisation programme.

Working within a high-performing data and analytics team, you will play a key role in the transition from legacy BI platforms to Power BI, while helping uplift internal capability and establish best-practice reporting, modelling, and governance standards.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor BI developers across Power BI, data modelling, and BI best practices.
• Support the migration of reporting and analytics solutions to Power BI.
• Design and implement scalable dimensional models and star schemas.
• Develop and optimise Power BI reports, semantic models, dataflows, and DAX measures.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into reporting solutions.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to deliver modern analytics solutions.
• Provide guidance on governance, performance tuning, deployment processes, and reusable BI assets.

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Power BI development, including DAX, semantic models, and report optimisation.
• Experience working with both Power BI and Qlik environments.
• Deep understanding of dimensional modelling, data warehousing, and SQL.
• Knowledge of data architecture principles, including Kimball methodology and related concepts.
• Proven experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or coaching within BI teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and advisory experience.
