Senior SAP Payroll Consultant (SAP ECC HCM) 12-Month Hourly Rate Contract | Hybrid 

We’re partnering with a large and well-known public sector organisation seeking an experienced SAP Payroll Consultant to join their Corporate Products team on an initial 12-month contract.

This role sits within an established SAP ECC environment and will focus on supporting, maintaining, and enhancing SAP Payroll and HCM solutions across a large and complex workforce. Working as a senior individual contributor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring payroll compliance, maintaining system configuration, supporting integrations, and delivering continuous improvements across the platform.

This position offers a hybrid working model, requiring office attendance approximately three days per fortnight in Porirua.

About the Role You’ll be responsible for supporting the organisation’s SAP ECC Payroll and HCM environment, ensuring critical payroll processes remain compliant, stable, and aligned to business requirements.

The role combines functional consulting, configuration, support, and advisory responsibilities, working closely with payroll, HR, finance, and technology stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing SAP Payroll configuration including schemas, rules, wage types, and payroll processing updates
• Implementing collective agreement and legislative changes within SAP
• Reviewing and applying annual payroll and tax-related changes
• Maintaining SAP Time Management configurations including leave, quotas, work schedules, and roster alignment
• Supporting Personnel Administration (PA) and Organisation Management (OM) structures
• Applying SAP Notes and ensuring ongoing platform compliance
• Investigating and resolving complex incidents and service requests through ServiceNow and Jira
• Supporting integrations between SAP Payroll, Finance, and external third-party systems
• Providing Level 2 and Level 3 support across SAP HCM modules
• Identifying opportunities for system improvements and process optimisation

What We’re Looking For We’re interested in speaking with experienced SAP Payroll specialists who combine strong functional expertise with hands-on configuration capability.

You’ll ideally bring:

• 8+ years’ experience working within SAP HCM Payroll environments
• Strong SAP ECC Payroll configuration experience across schemas, rules, wage types, and payroll processing
• Proven experience supporting SAP HCM, Payroll, and Time Management modules
• Experience configuring and supporting Personnel Administration (PA) and Organisation Management (OM)
• Strong understanding of organisational structures and their impact across SAP HCM
• Experience supporting integrations between Payroll, Finance, and third-party applications
• Knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation and operational payroll practices
• Background providing Level 2 and Level 3 application support within large enterprise environments
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience working across both Agile and traditional delivery environments

The following would be advantageous:

• Payroll-related ABAP development experience
• Experience supporting large, unionised or highly regulated workforce environments
• Government or public sector experience
